Duplicate Check works with Record Types too. When using Record Types within your salesforce organization, a new tab will appear in your *Object* setup page. In that tab, you will be able to determine which scenarios with which record type you want to use. You will be able to decide what record type to compare with what record type. It is possible to compare any record type to any record type.
